Around the Area

The Show Place Arena and Prince George’s Equestrial Center typically holds more than 30 horse related events a year.  Fans can see rodeos, a horse show with Special Olympics riders and the Best Horse Show Black Eyed Susan series about six times a year. 

Another fun sight is Montpellier Farms lets families have fun in the fresh air.  The farm remains open from June to Early November.  Visitors can take hay rides, go on a tube slide down a hill and see animals such as cows and goats. Fall events include corn maze, a corn tepee and pumpkin picking and painting.

The Patuxent rural Life Museums bring the past alive with a half dozen venues in Patuxent River Park, including the Duckett Cabin where a farming family once lived. 

Thousands of Canada geese call ehte Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary home during the winter.  The Frank Oslisio Visstor’s Center features exhibits about the goose as well as seasonal galleries.  The center includes a birwatching area and a kid pleasing live animal area with snakes, turtles and toads.
