The most popular inference is that it stemmed from a misinterpretation of “Captain John”, after the Captain John’s Creek that led off of the Potomac River. Though no one knows who Captain John is or if this hypothesis is even true, Cabin John, Maryland is very real. 1912 began the beginning of modern development in Cabin John when the American Land Company purchased a large piece of land and constructed residential lots out of it. Through the remaining 1900s, Cabin John, Maryland was successful in its effort to expand both its village and residential opportunities. During this time, the first Crab Fest was held in July 1970 and what once was just a small fundraiser is now a large community tradition. The turn into the 21st century brought much more modern renovation, construction, and expansion.
